What to fix
What this checks
- Title width: Google cuts titles at about 600 pixels, not at a set number of characters. "WWWW" is much wider than "illi", so we measure the width in pixels, as Google's results font renders it.
- Description length: around 920 pixels on desktop, about 155–160 characters. Shorter than about 70 characters wastes the space, and Google often swaps in its own text.
- Open Graph: og:title, og:description and og:image decide what your link looks like on X, LinkedIn, Slack and iMessage. Without og:image, shares show a blank card.
- Canonical and robots: a missing canonical can split ranking between URL variants, and a stray
noindexkeeps the page out of Google entirely.
How to write a title that gets clicked
Put the outcome first and the brand last: "Invoice clients in 2 minutes — Billy" beats "Billy | Home". Use the words people search for, and keep it under 60 characters so the end isn't cut off. For the description, write one line on what the visitor gets and one on why to trust it, then end with what to do next.
The same rules apply to the headline on the page itself. Test yours with the headline analyzer, or your button with the CTA checker.
We fetch only the page's HTML once to read its tags; nothing is stored except the URL in our usage log. Google may rewrite titles and descriptions, so the preview is an approximation.
