carrd.co homepage teardown: 68/100
While Carrd's hero is clean and iconic, it completely hides the product interface and templates, forcing cold visitors to click blindly without visual proof.
We ran carrd.co through PageCritic's landing page audit. It scored 68/100, #5 of the 10 indie hacker landing page examples we scored (average 70) and #36 of all 70 homepages in our ranked list. Its strongest area is Design (82), and its weakest is Trust (55).
Audited on 2026-10-18 from desktop and mobile screenshots plus the page's HTML. The scores are an AI's opinion of conversion best practices, not measured conversion rates, and carrd.co didn't ask for this review. The page may have changed since.

Top 3 issues, with fixes
1. Zero product visualization above the fold
A website builder is an intrinsically visual tool, yet visitors see only an icon and text gradient. Cold traffic cannot see what Carrd sites look like or how easy the builder is to use.
Fix: Add a visual preview of stunning one-page templates or an interactive editor snippet directly underneath or adjacent to the hero copy.
2. Primary CTA copy is ambiguous and passive
'Choose a Starting Point' sounds like step two of a wizard rather than an exciting, clear value proposition like building a website or exploring templates.
Fix: Change the primary button copy to 'Start Building Free' or 'Browse 100+ Templates', with a microcopy subtext confirming 'No account needed to start'.
3. H1 tag is wasted on just the brand name
The page H1 is literally just 'Carrd'. This sacrifices core SEO authority and forces the explanatory copy into an unstyled paragraph tag.
Fix: Promote the subhead into the H1: 'Simple, free, fully responsive one-page sites for pretty much anything' and keep Carrd as an image/logo element.
What the carrd.co homepage does well
- Lightning fast load times and clean, lightweight execution with zero script bloat.
- The core value proposition sentence ('Simple, free, fully responsive one-page sites...') is concise and instantly communicates the offer.
- Minimalist design with distraction-free layout immediately guides the eye toward the primary action.
