clerk.com homepage teardown: 64/100
Landing page examples › Dev tool › clerk.com
Clerk has strong proof and a clean hero, but its first screen says "Everything you need for authentication" and never states who it's for or what the visitor gets, and the only button is a "Copy prompt" with no clear outcome.
We ran clerk.com through PageCritic's landing page audit. It scored 64/100, #7 of the 9 developer tool landing page examples we scored (average 69) and #55 of all 79 homepages in our ranked list. Its strongest area is Speed & SEO (90), and its weakest is Clarity (45).
Audited on 2026-10-24 from desktop and mobile screenshots plus the page's HTML. The scores are an AI's opinion of conversion best practices, not measured conversion rates, and clerk.com didn't ask for this review. The page may have changed since.

Top 3 issues, with fixes
1. No audience named in the hero
The headline and subheadline "More than APIs. The complete user layer for modern apps." never say who should buy: developers, founders, B2B SaaS teams. A visitor cannot tell within seconds whether this is for them.
Fix: Name the audience in the subheadline, e.g. "Authentication, user management and multi-tenancy for React, Next.js and Remix apps." replacing "More than APIs. The complete user layer for modern apps."
2. Reason to choose Clerk is missing
The only differentiating claim further down, "Clerk has all the features you need to onboard and manage the users and organizations of your multi-tenant SaaS application", is generic. Nothing on the first screen explains why Clerk over Auth0, Firebase or rolling your own.
Fix: Add a concrete reason to the subheadline, such as the time saved ("Ship sign-in, MFA and organizations in minutes instead of weeks of custom code") and state it in the hero, not only in a lower section.
3. Product category is guessable, not stated
"Everything you need for authentication" does not say Clerk is a hosted authentication and user management service. A reader has to infer the category from the forms in the screenshot.
Fix: Put the category in the headline or subheadline: "Hosted authentication and user management for your app" in place of "More than APIs. The complete user layer for modern apps."
What the clerk.com homepage does well
- The headline "Everything you need for authentication" is short at 5 words and set at 56 px, so it is the first thing read on desktop and phone.
- The subheadline section gives a concrete benefit: "Add high-conversion Social Sign-on (SSO) to your application in minutes", with a free tier stated.
- Customer quotes from Supabase, Vercel and Stripe CEOs give strong third-party proof of credibility further down the page.
