neon.tech homepage teardown: 72/100
Sleek and authoritative developer aesthetic, but it introduces unexplained jargon ('Lakebase Postgres') without a supporting subheadline to ground what developers actually get.
We ran neon.tech through PageCritic's landing page audit. It scored 72/100, #3 of the 9 developer tool landing page examples we scored (average 70) and #24 of all 70 homepages in our ranked list. Its strongest area is Design (85), and its weakest is SEO basics (58).
Audited on 2026-10-18 from desktop and mobile screenshots plus the page's HTML. The scores are an AI's opinion of conversion best practices, not measured conversion rates, and neon.tech didn't ask for this review. The page may have changed since.

Top 3 issues, with fixes
1. Missing above-the-fold explanatory subheadline
The hero jumps directly from the H1 ('The backend for apps and agents, built to scale on Lakebase Postgres.') into CTA buttons without any secondary paragraph. First-time visitors are left wondering what 'Lakebase Postgres' entails and what tools are bundled.
Fix: Add a crisp 1–2 sentence subheadline directly below the H1: 'Serverless Postgres paired with built-in Auth, Functions, Storage, and AI Gateway. Instant branching, scale-to-zero, and zero server management.'
2. Jargon barrier with 'Lakebase Postgres'
Neon historically positioned itself as Serverless Postgres. Introducing the Databricks 'Lakebase' coinage in the primary H1 creates cognitive friction before users understand the core value proposition.
Fix: Either demote 'Lakebase' to the eyebrow chip or define it immediately in the copy so developers know it means serverless storage-compute separation on Postgres.
3. Low logo contrast and lack of CTA friction reducers
The social proof bar at the bottom of the hero (Replit, DoorDash, BCG, Meta) has extremely low contrast and looks nearly invisible on many screens. Additionally, the primary button 'Get started' lacks a risk-reversal microcopy line.
Fix: Increase logo opacity from ~25% to at least 55-60%, and append microcopy beneath 'Get started' stating 'Start free in seconds • No credit card required'.
What the neon.tech homepage does well
- The 'NEON IS PART OF THE DATABRICKS PLATFORM' endorsement eyebrow provides immediate enterprise credibility.
- The dark mode typography and cyberpunk-inspired aesthetic resonate well with the modern developer demographic.
- Clear secondary CTA hierarchy separating 'Get started' (filled white) from 'Read the docs' (outlined).
