descript.com homepage teardown: 75/100
Landing page examples › AI › descript.com
The hero headline "AI-editing for every kind of video" is a generic category claim, and the first screen never says who Descript is for or what result the visitor gets.
We ran descript.com through PageCritic's landing page audit. It scored 75/100, #3 of the 9 AI startup landing page examples we scored (average 70) and #18 of all 79 homepages in our ranked list. Its strongest area is Mobile (93), and its weakest is Clarity (50).
Audited on 2026-10-24 from desktop and mobile screenshots plus the page's HTML. The scores are an AI's opinion of conversion best practices, not measured conversion rates, and descript.com didn't ask for this review. The page may have changed since.

Top 3 issues, with fixes
1. No audience named on the first screen
The page only names who uses it (marketing, sales, support, CEO) far down the page, so a visitor scanning the hero cannot tell whether this tool is meant for podcasters, marketers or educators.
Fix: Add a short audience line above or below the headline, e.g. "For podcasters, marketers and teams who make video", placed directly under the h1 "AI-editing for every kind of video".
2. No reason to choose Descript over alternatives
The first screen makes no comparison with traditional timeline editors or manual transcription, so the visitor has no reason to pick this tool over the one they already use.
Fix: Add a differentiator to the subheadline, such as "Edit video by editing the transcript, no timeline needed", which names the manual alternative the visitor is likely using.
3. Headline names a category, not a result
"AI-editing for every kind of video" describes a feature set; it does not say what the visitor gets, such as saving time or cutting editing work.
Fix: Rewrite the h1 to state an outcome, for example "Edit video as easily as editing a doc", and keep "AI VIDEO EDITOR" as the eyebrow.
What the descript.com homepage does well
- The eyebrow "AI VIDEO EDITOR" and the h1 make it immediately clear this is a video editing product.
- Specific benefits appear in the body, such as "Algolia saved 116 hours of video production time" and "most people make their first cuts within minutes".
- The red "Get started for free" button sits in the first screen on both desktop and phone, so the main action is visible without scrolling.
